This is a unique signature leadership programme, led by Youth Wave, that aims at building the next generation of servant and selfless youth leaders who are passionate and committed to changing the lives of young people and impacting communities by solving the world’s toughest challenges using innovative solutions in sustainable ways. 

The Changemakers have track record of leadership skills and are drawn national- wide from youth-led NGO’s, networks, clubs, institutions of higher learning and other development structures at national, district and community level. 

The programme involves tailor-made capacity building designed to necessitate personal growth and development. 

The programmatic focus areas are: Health, Gender, education, Civic engagement and Advocacy (social accountability).

Apart from working with a local NGO called Save the Poor Foundation (SAPOF) based in Blantyre, Alice Chiwaya is also implementing some projects in Ntcheu District. She is a trained Agricultural Extension Worker who decided to join the Civil Society in order to serve the rural people and the community at large on another Platform. Having joined Save the Poor Foundation, a local NGO which is working in the areas of Education, Health, Women and Youth Empowerment and Advocacy as the Program Manager in 2013, Alice was appointed as the Executive Director by the Board of Trustees in 2017. Amongst her accomplishments, Alice has been elected as the Chairperson of Limbe Youth Network; Secretary of Blantyre Youth Network; Ambassador for Ball to Ball- a USA based Charity Organization. Through working with SAPOF, Alice successfully championed a campaign in targeted Primary and Secondary Schools in Blantyre and Ntcheu on the Education for All, making sure that vulnerable children are accessing good and quality Education.

Benson Mwambene is a founder and Executive Director of ‘Social Advocacy for Development Network. Apart from being a holder of a Bachelor of Arts Media for Development from the University of Malawi, Chancellor College, Benson has extensive experience and knowledge in community mobilisation, corporate communication, behavioural Change communication, demand creation communication strategies and development approaches necessary to influence positive, overreaching outcomes in development initiatives.

ABOUT

‘Social Advocacy for Development Network’ SADN, is a youth led network that foster youth action towards sustainable development through advocacy. As a non-governmental organisation, SADN aims at voicing out and acting on problems facing the society in sustainable ways. Specific areas of interest include Sexual Reproductive Health, Gender Equality, Education, Entrepreneurship, Capacity building, Environmental health and Civic engagement just to mention a few.

So far, the organisation has mobilized over 30 active youth in Salima district, who desperately need this platform to impact and develop the nation using innovative and sustainable methods.

She is passionate about young girls and women and has been actively engaged in advocacy. Bridgitta was named the most powerful young voice IN UHC, HIV and Sexual Reproductive health rights at ICASA in Kigali, Rwanda 2019. I am Cecilia Taonga Kwalira, a volunteer peer educator at Forum for Aids Counselling and Training (FACT), a change maker with youth wave and of course a young leader of the Worldwide Association of Girls Guide and Girl Scout of which by country am a young leader of Malawi Girls Guide Association. I am an advocate and have a very big passion for inspiring my fellow youths and making a positive impact and difference in one’s life of which in turn brings a positive impact to the world for I believe that “One positive big mind and heart in turn adds to a positive impact to the world as it begins with the surrounding”. Lastly I am a student at The Malawi Polytechnic University pursuing Civil Engineering.

Malawi Girls Guide Association is an organisation that is part of the Worldwide Association of Girls Guide and Girl Scout that focuses on empowering girls and young women (3-25) to realise their fullest potential. FACT is an organisation that provide HIV prevention, comprehensive sexuality education, sexual and reproductive health and rights and other general adolescent health programs and services to young people especially those that are left out. Co-founder of World of Words, which was established in 2016 during her 2nd year whilst pursing her undergrad. Her passion is in psychosocial support mainly around youth related issues. She has had the privilege of being mentored by Plan International for over a year through her works in advocacy. She has had the opportunity to be invited by Health Policy Plus to attend a couple of their trainings around Health Advocacy and has used such tools provide to her in her work with W.O.W. She wrote an analyses paper on the Health Budget allocated to Mangochi in 2020 which made her have a seat at the District Implementation Plan (DIP) Review and 2021 DIP strategy plan. Currently Chido is working at Global Health Corps, which has provided a broad network for her to tap into as she continues being involved in health and social equity.
